Sankaku Channel/mecha musume

Mecha musume are anthropomorphizations of military vehicles and equipment. They are similar in concept to the OS-tans. It seems most common for mecha musume to represent airplanes, though tanks are often seen as well.

The popular series Strike Witches is inspired by mecha musume. It represents a variation of the original concept, in that the characters are human girls who put on armor resembling various real-world World War II aircraft.

Mecha musume are not simply cyborgs or androids, nor are they piloted mecha or mecha with human attributes; they are representations of specific pieces of military hardware. As a rule of thumb, it should be possible to ask "What is the character a mecha musume of?" If the question doesn't make sense when applied to a character, it is probably not a mecha musume.
