The Idolmaster is a Japanese arcade and console game, released be Namco in July, 2005. It centers around the career of the Producer, who works with a group of prospective pop idols. An anime adaptation by A-1 Studios aired July to December 2011.
The player starts the game by choosing a name for their Producer, which will be followed by a -P (e.g. Minato-P). They then choose an idol to produce, hence "idol master". They can train their idol, communicate with them, or send them to auditions and events.
The game features a wide variety of many different idols, who vary largely in age and appearance.
