Please use this tag only if you believe that there is an exact duplicate image on this site.

Only undesirable ("bad") duplicates are subject to removal, many variants are allowed or even encouraged.

Duplicate handling procedure in detail:

1. Establish there is a duplicate using the "find similar" link

2. Make the duplicate the child of the "original" or "best" post

  • Establishing which of the images is the "original" or "best":
  • i) It will generally be higher resolution
  • ii) It will generally be superior quality (less JPG compression or a PNG, less blockiness and more detail in video files)
  • iii) It will generally be older
  • iv) It will not be a Photoshopped, cropped or otherwise modified variant of a pre-existing post (unless modified by the creator)
  • v) It will be subject to basic cleaning and colour correction
  • vi) It may have intact or unaltered EXIF or other image metadata

3. Establish whether the post is a "good" or "bad" duplicate:

  • Compare the images by eye - is it absolutely identical? If so, it may be tagged "duplicate"
  • If it differs from the original only by being a different resolution, lower quality due to compression or conversion, or a differing MD5 or filesize due to altered image metadata, it can be considered a "bad" duplicate
  • Everything else can be considered as a "good" duplicate and should be parented to its appropriate post

4. If it is a "bad" duplicate, it may also be flagged for deletion ("good" duplicates will not be deleted under normal circumstances)
