Why on earth is it blurred?

I'm afraid Japanese artists must censor their work or face prison. Blame General MacArthur for that, he may have been a great general, but he was also something of a puritan at times.

So MacArthur's dead... why is the censorship still on the books? Why not rewrite the law? What's the reasoning behind keeping it?

Thanks! So the JP-artists censor it themselves? That means there must be great quality images around somewhere! :-)
I'm an artist living in Japan, and I'm thinkin about creating my own lovely ladies, and I will fight for my rights, if need be!
What about artists like, Hajime Sorayama, I don't think he'd censor or let anybody else censor his fantastic work, and man it's fantastic!

Basically because it's extremely difficult for a politician to come out and say (effectively) "allow more indecent porn". It's seen as a vote loser.

Artists seem to get away with it a lot, though not always. "Fine art" also seems to be exempt. Works distributed online outside of Japan are also pretty safe, it seems (just don' mention you're in Japan).

A lot of the censorship is probably enforced by the printers...
