As I know nothing regarding Photoshop terminology, much of the later pages are a bit of a mess, but I hope actual artists are available to parse what Cauliflower meant to say...
Uhh he's using Photoshop CS3. Mine's v.8.0 so I couldn't find any of the features.
I'd usually do it manually. But the burn/dodge part is kinda correct. It's somehow preferably used than adding another layer of shadow. (Some artists use over hundreds of layer just to get their shadings)
