For the stripe's colors, light-blue, peach, and white are the usual ones.
The width of the stripes and how many to draw isn't something that's clear. My personal way is to draw as many stripes as I can while having them to be pretty fat.

Putting the color on the basic multiplication layer.
Since the striping is done in/through the multiplication (layer), at the end I erase the main line and correct the color tone.
I up the contrast in Photoshop a little, and raising the values for Color Balance Shadow Magenta a little makes it look better, so I recommend it.
