Gamers rarely believe a woman is a woman in game.
those who do are often scammed. so...

The funny thing is that there was actually a guy in SAO (I mean the game) who pretended to be a girl (at least until the characters were changed to look like their real selves).

I wonder how did he disguise his voice? He'd need to, wouldn't he?

I also wonder why Lisbeth (forgot her real name) and others with different hair colors than their irl ones kept the non-irl color (I can't remember any other case, except maybe for Klein).

Years of practice!

Oooooorrr a tracheal shave. Fuck'n hell the later is temping sometimes. Especially if you're stuck at that awkward point where your breasts are definitely clearly starting to show and your voice still sounds like the scratchy grating whisper-shriek of an alien human guise.

There's... there's a lot of weird looks that you get.

Oi... I still get transphobia downvotes just for answering a simple question...? That's not very nice of annon-kun.

I'd say it's a part of the character generation. Obviously not shown anywhere, kirito used his beta character and in aincrad he just randomized it.

What I wonder is how the VR headsets are able to copy the player's voices at all when it's so dependent on the size and condition of the larynx.

But then, I suppose it does copy their bodily anatomy as well... at least when they first log in. I mean, nobody mentioned anything about their appearance being updated as the game progressed. If it actually checked that every 24 hours, Kirito would've seen his hair growing and muscles shrinking while he was playing in the first season... and if you extrapolate that further, the muscles around the larynx might even weaken as they play. I wonder... I wonder if that would make talking harder and harder for them the longer they were logged in...? Maybe? I wish I didn't have to dash right this second, I have a ton of research to do all the sudden.

You shouldn't call one persons distaste for something a phobia.

Imagination, 'nuff said.

I found something relevant, but it wasn't a whole lot of... anything.

I didn't make up the term.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/transphobia

And I think it fit the situation, because there was nothing inherently wrong about what I said. Well, actually to be fair using the term "tracheal shave" might be a bit inaccurate because it's basically slang for a wide variety of surgical procedures but I imagined most people didn't care to know the subject THAT well.

To be honest, I'm starting to feel bad even for responding. Fuck me for knowing the answer to shit, right? Bleh.

Imagination is what you should use to solve problems, not cover them up.

I knew you didn't make it up. But to immediately mark a downvote as transphobic, is a little over the top imo.
I know *phobia also relates to dislike and whatnot, but it's just such a big word... .__.

the nervegear needed calibration before use (like touching many places in your body), so maybe one of the steps takes voice samples?

It's unlikely to be anything else, so I wanted to mention that it "wasn't nice." That I got a downvote didn't bother me, heck, when I'm joking around they can be a badge of honor; but I immediately knew why I got that downvote... and it hurt a bit, so I mentioned it did, and I mentioned that the reason wasn't something nice of them to do. I know it was a harsh world, but it was the most succinct way to describe the sentiment.

I said it because I didn't want to go full on soapbox this time. I can see that was a misjudgment in that singular respect because here I am still blabbering on about it, but it wasn't unfitting to the word's definition. It was a harsh word, but it's still exactly what it was.

Ooooohhh~~ that might do it! But if you're only testing audio recordings in a manner like "make a high note, make a low note, now say this phrase." You could probably pretty easily mess with the system if you wanted to by just using a sound board... and if you did, you might actually keep your feminine voice if you changed your avi back to it's default form. AND unless it scanned you naked, you might still be able to fool it into thinking you had huge jugs by litterally smuggling melons, right?

That's... that's an incredibly amusing thought. X'D

B-but I bet nobody bothered to do anything like that, especially if the game gives you alternate voice pitches when you're creating your character. Which isn't to say uh... t-that I wouldn't do all of that and more. *cough*
