Gender in the instance of a imaginary species plays no difference, even compared to a real species.

Should we label each individually gendered dragon? Or each bird that was painstakingly drawn into a motif? What about the passerby, who's forms and faces are unknown to the viewer?

Canonically, inklings are just that--inklings. Another detail, regardless of gender. It would be asinine within the canon to label the species by gender, so giving them separate labels here would be... Pointless since all known genders have their own tag.

Now, if there was an inkling with a name and identity...
