Sankaku Channel/spooning

Spooning is one of the most prevalent sex positions along with the front-to-front, rear-entry and girl on top positions. In the spooning position, the receiving character lies down on his/her side while being penetrated in a variety of ways.

There are several variants of spooning. A few of the more common ones seen in artwork are listed below:

• The penetrating character lies side by side with the receiving character and enters from behind. This is the most signature variant from which the name spooning derives. The receiving character usually has one leg raised to facilitate entry.

• The penetrating character kneels down and enters from the direction of the receiving character's legs.

• The penetrating character lies down face-to-face with the receiving character and enters from the front. There is usually kissing and embracing and more often than not, another character joins from behind to form a double penetration.

 
In short, as long as the receiving character is lying sideways on a flat surface during sex, the artwork can be safely tagged with spooning most of the time.
