4 months agoEquivalents for this category should absolutely be created---few would disagree. At first glance, it seems the only issue with choosing a term lies in which variant(s) have a good counting form, but in truth the terms intersex and futanari, the two leading contenders for this category, are not synonomous. While futanari expresses possession of both male and female genitalia, intersex has a much broader context to include any significant biological sexual ambiguity. The Intersex Society of North America (ISNA) poses examples of intersex that clearly 'slip under the radar' of futanari or transgender, such as being "born with a large clitoris, or lacking a vaginal opening" (2008).
This in mind, "futanari" is the most valid form to use for Sankaku Complex's extragender category. This works out conveniently, as "futanari" has a valid, even commonly accepted abbreviation and counting form (1futa, 2futas, etc.) and meets another important requirement: "futanari" is used prevalently by the anime community to express hermaphroditism (Wikipedia, 2015).
Do you agree with these findings?
