Sankaku Channel/How to become a contributor/moderator

As many of you have asked just how to be promoted, a thread was in order to answer all of you as easily and efficiently as possible.

The requirements are rather simple: be active and in good standing. Being active means posting, tagging, editing wiki articles, translating, aliasing, etc. Doing any of these actively will allow you to become a contributor and, as you keep doing a good job, possibly a moderator later on.

We thank you for your current and future involvements with the Channel and its forum and hope to make this place the best anime image board online!

Which page is that on? It is probably either a permission issue or an uninformative way of saying you have no invites, we'll check it.

Don't think I noticed when I became a contributor, lol. I just checked my profile one day and I was a contributor apparently. "Oh, cool." I said. Haha.

I've since started messaging users to let them know about promotions to avoid that.

Please accept this similarly unsolicited promotion to janitor!

what can mod do that contributor can't and what is a janitor?

The major difference is that mods can moderate (they can delete and approve more things than a contributor).

Janitor is the intermediate level between mod and contributor.

We can only delete images according to our deletion policies though. It sounds like you may not be wholly familiar with them.

We consolidated the admin stuff on this "System" account for now. It was formerly "Artefact" but as most of its actions are automatic it was renamed to be more obvious.

The 9 which came before were all sacrificed to the god of testing.

Our approach has always been simply to provide users with the best possible site, and hopefully we've pursued this to a higher pinnacle than other similar sites. Further improvements are certainly planned, so with any luck things will really take off soon.

Danbooru is an independent project and we diverged from them some time ago, it seems unlikely we'll converge again. There are some significant differences in design philosophy and outlook amongst the various projects, so the more actively developed they are the more divergent they'll likely become. We are the only one with any interest in providing a bilingual experience, for example.

That is an interesting backstory. And I'm glad you made it this far.

If I may make a suggestion, might I suggest a color change option? For instance.. at times I'm sick of the basic white, and would like a Black Color Background. Or maybe Black background, pink pinks and light blue normal text.

#ffccff pink, to be exact and #66ffff blue.

Also, the black would fit your Beako well, shocking, how they're's only 307 pictures of her, total.

How come some contributers can moderate and come can not? For instance:

I'm not complaining, I'm glad you trust me enough to give that honor to moderate, but it's confusing to me, is all.

Historical reasons only. The "can moderate" field will likely be removed soon and it will be strictly based on user role (so all contributors will have identical limited moderator capabilities), with an additional scale for membership level (premium and what have you) and another "reputation" or "XP" type score recording your contributions.

Granted, I should have waited on another Mod/Person to see what they had in mind.

Sadily, I wasn't able to delete it. I was going to delete it, because they didn't tag it, correctly. Just posted and waited for someone else to tag it. Which is lazy.

I'd like to be a Janitor for that purpose. I think I'd do well in that field. Of course, that's your choice..

Contributors can approve and their posts are automatically approved.

The usual approach to untagged uploads is to harangue the uploader and/or leave the post unapproved. Approvals should wait for some semblance of proper tagging and some duplicate checking.

You can be a janitor if you master the subtleties of our deletion policies.

Can you show me what the deletion Policies are?

And how can I master the field, if I am un-able to try it, first?

As for harangue... said uploader has had 3 negitive strikes on him, one by me.... for the exact reason of no tags on it.

Couldn't delete this post, I had added this post to my other post. But when I tried to delete this post, it gave me a password screen, which said access denied. :/ So could you delete it?

We should have people delete post cause there a lot of duplicates

The usual handling would be harangue => user ignores => warn/ban => user ignores => permanent ban

As c.cfire rightly points out, we need to get more active janitors to take care of these issues.

That is the main cause of deletions. Others would be spam, very low quality, inappropriate content (photos which belong on idol for example, although this is not 100% strict), or legal issues.

If you are able to apply these consistently that would be a start.

There is a detailed log of all moderation related actions in place so we can examine what users with these privileges have been doing, but obviously we would be better promoting the right people in the first place and giving them clear and detailed guidelines to work with...
