I think it would be really neat if there were a way to randomize view order when viewing posts. Similar to how you can choose a random 50 from an uploader to see 50 random images he uploaded. It would be as simple as having the option to simply put in Order:random in tags to view the selected posts in a random order. I don't know how difficult that would be to write and apply but if possible it would be much appreciated!

I think we can add this.

The usual issue is the speed of truly random queries and the propensity of items to be repeated in small result sets, but we'll look into it.

I'll see what we can do...

This has been added - order:random will give you a stable pseudo-random order.

Hello, I think it would be better to make the notices on the Channel actually noticeable, as it took days before seeing that an avatar could be set.

This is how things are at the moment:
http://i.imgur.com/tXY09w6.png

Small and only at the very top; easily missable. Also, since it seems to be in front of the page, it slightly covers the articles and logo, which might not be very important but doesn't look very good.

This is how I suggest they become:

The size and colour may vary, but I do think how I did it goes nicely with the surroundings, and it doesn't feel annoying. Of course, adding a little "close" or "[x]" link next to it would be even better, since once read, we don't want to see the notice everywhere we go. I would love to see an active community filled with pretty avatars, so doing something like this would be greatly appreciated!

On another note, good work and thank you for the Channel's modifications and the reopening of its forums!

Wow, that was quick. Thanks!

I suggest the Pools section be better moderated.

- Blank Pools shouldn't exist
- Pools shouldn't be a venue to place personal favourites / pointless collections
- Similar posts should be Parented, not Pool'd (though this is subjective as certain similar-looking images with variations are originally a set/collection)

I also suggest implementing Auto Paging in Pools.

I think it would be really neat if there were a way to tell if a post is as been deleted like in gelbooru the thumbnails are highlight red.

This seems a bit contrary to the concept of "deletion," shouldn't they be hidden?

Higher level users can view them freely at present, but they are hidden by default for obvious reasons.

filter by parent or child images

I'd like a way to filter by whether an image has parent or child posts. I personally enjoy photoshopping different versions of a photo together -- maybe make a character bottomless instead of naked, or something. has:child_posts or has:parent_post as a filtering tag would be awesome, since i could combine it with other tags and such.

I'll save you some time and quote it here:

parent:1234
Search for posts that have 1234 as a parent (and include post 1234).
parent:any
Search only for posts that have parents.
parent:none
Search for posts that have no parent.
has_children:true / false
Search only for posts that either have or don't have children.

Might I suggest separate categories/type & colours for certain tags? Suggested tag categorization:-
- General
- Meta
- Artist
- Character
- Copyright (touhou, vocaloid, pokemon, fate/stay_night, clannad, spirited_away, gamecube, nissan_skyline, etc.)
- <New type for circles, brands, companies, etc.> (nintendo, type-moon, key_(company), nise_midi_doronokai, nyantype, studio_ghibli, speedo, nissan, etc.)
- <New type for styles, memes, trends, etc.> (gaijin_4koma, mami_mogu_mogu, yandere_trance, world_is_mine_(vocaloid), yukkuri_shiteitte_ne, etc.)

Tag categorization above might seem subjective, but open for discussion/deliberation. Ideas from certain other image databases (y*nde.re, K*nachan.com).

Also, "Name (ja)" in the Tags section remains uneditable for a while now.

Pretty sure it’s editable, just doesn’t show up as soon as you do because it requires staff approval.

I also wanted to bring up the point that the copyright category is too generalized in my opinion, and that it should be split; I’m not sure whether I 100% agree with your way of splitting it, though. About the last type you propose, I don’t think I ever encountered such tags, so my opinion is neutral.

Thank you so much. I already knew there was a way to see the parent of a certain image, but I missed the :any part.

Actually "any" and some of the others are new additions from a few weeks ago as cheeky FrenchCoffee well knows as he was the one who suggested it.

Editing the Japanese translation of a tag creates a pending translation which needs to be approved, in much the same way as with aliases and so on. It should give you a notice to this effect.

The English version is supposed to be functionally identical to the tag "name" so that is not ordinarily editable.

The pending translation index is currently accessible to contributors and approvable by moderators:
http://chan.sankakucomplex.com/tag_translation/index

We'd like to open this up a bit further really, but as the number of users with the requisite interest and Japanese ability is low this has not happened yet.

You can also create translations from the "in place" tag editing if you have access to this as a contributor - we restricted this to contributors as it was apparent it was confusing to most users.

If anyone wants to help with any of this, let us know as tag translations are a big priority. I believe a wiki article explaining the guidelines is in place already.

Man1 and Alaktorn, as you know we can pretty freely add new tag types, and the main obstacle is in terms of them making sense, being obvious to users, and having enough users able to maintain them properly to make them worthwhile.

Having seen some of the other schemes, short of making it excessively fine it is going to be hard to maintain a clean distinction between "works," "franchises" and "producers," if those cover what is being lumped together under the term "copyright."

A distinction between "artist" and "circle" seems too subtle to maintain, and a "meme" type might be a little ambiguous as even in the examples given there are some which are clearly closer to copyrights than anything else, and amidst the general tags there are many which could cause confusion.

A "format" or "medium" tag type seems a definite possibility (you may have seen moe's "fault" tag type) - graphite, watercolor, game_cg, dakimakura, wide_image, wallpaper, etc?

Leon previously suggested we have the likes of wallpaper, photoshop, nude_filter and so on in "meta" but this seemed clearly overreaching.

We also need to make sure people are actually going to go through and change them to an appreciable degree - easy in the case of a few big tags like "meta" but dealing with the "copyright" tag would be a bigger job and it might be better to have them lumped together than to have them inconsistently applied because few people looked at the smaller tags.

Tee-hee~

Anybody knows why the number of “responses” to this topic is wrong by +1?

It might be that, or it might count the first post as well?

is there a way to have different background colors white is boring

The colour scheme is a pretty subjective issue. Adding themes would not be too difficult but it is hard enough keeping one layout displaying properly over so many devices...

You can now search by file_type, i.e. file_type:png

Before anyone asks, there is at present no means of automatically identifying animated images from searches - please use the tags.

My biggest problem with the site atm is thumbnails not showing when I save pics to my comp. (for certain pics... easily 1/3rd of the pics on the site seem to suffer from this if not more) (and it's terrible the more I think about it because why I am using this site anymore as opposed to other booru sites which I USED to think were inferior to sankaku)

That aside, I've had several ideas for this site over time, such as a way to display your favorites in random order. (Additionally it might be neat if a random favorite of yours appeared on every single page on the site.)

Also, I dunno if this is worth mentioning, but I don't even enable script when using this site! I guess I like viewing thumbs page by page, like a stupid internet caveman, instead of scrolling through thumbs. Or maybe I just like knowing how many pics there are (page numbers serves this purpose), and/or knowing how much progress I've made in a tag, and/or to be able to go to the last page of results instantly as opposed to scrolling for minutes until I reach the end. (From time to time I still enable scripts temporarily, such as to view articles on the main site, or to make this post.)

http://chan.sankakucomplex.com/?tags=fav%3Akonda+order%3Arandom

We'll continue to support traditional paginated browsing but noscript usage is unsupported and may or may not work. Certainly you lose many of the advanced features without any scripting.

Also a count of the pages viewed with links are displayed in the sidebar even in endless pages and you can directly start browsing from any of them.

Will it be possible to subscribe to artists or specific tags in the near future? Or does that take up too much computing power?

Thank you. You are doing God's work.

Edit:
Also I see a lot of potential_duplicate posts lately (most of these are poorly tagged by the way). I believe these posts are tagged potential_duplicate automatically after performing an image search. Is it possible to apply their parent posts, if for example the images match from 98 to 100%?

How would subscribing to a tag differ from using its feed? Or creating a single tag subscription?

We've been looking at how the sub system might be made a bit more usable...

potential_duplicate is applied after a rules based check on our own IQDB instance. They are rejected if they meet certain "bad duplicate" criteria, and allowed if they are md5 matches.

The percentage matches IQDB throws up can be a little erratic so we err on the side of caution with automatic results.

Tying the search into the parenting system should be possible, although it would probably be hard to ensure the parent went to the "original" image. I'd be a little worried about doing this without some definite oversight from users.

About potential_duplicate, am I right in thinking duplicates such as Post #3392625 (with a slight change in luminosity) are allowed?

Yes. Deletable duplicates are chiefly jpg quality downsamples, and identical images with differing md5s (usually the result of jpg crunching and exif stripping). Most other duplicates are parentable only.

potential_duplicate is programmatically determined by the IQDB analysis I mentioned, it would be preferable for manual tagging to use "duplicate" instead so it is clear it is not machine tagged.

If somebody would be so kind as to add a wiki page detailing the policies, procedures and tags involved it would be really helpful to users I think.

The problem with the current subscribing system is, that it is limited to 8 groups x 20 tags = 160 tags and there are way many more artists than this. It would be nice to have at least one group, which can contain 200 to 500 tags, just to add artists.

System said:

And as you said, it is really hard to add subscriptions and using the feed-system. The most comfortable way, I can think of, is to add a plus-sign next to the tags in the posts, where you can choose a subscription list to add the tag to.

It would look like this:
http://imgur.com/FOgbHb2

It sounds like a "my favorite tags" system and "my image feeds" are the two slightly different needs the sub system is trying to address in this case.

A favorite tag system would not be hard to provide, the issue is when it comes to letting users actually browse all their tags at once, which is the problem the subscription system attempts to address.

The UI suggestion is very good but I can't help but think there is a more fundamental design issue involved.

I think making the search bar (for posts) visible for all pages would be helpful. It's not a major issue, but it would shorten the steps.
